Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin, su nombre real, nació el 16 de abril de 1889 en Lambeth, uno de los barrios más pobres de Londres…Fue un actor cómico, compositor, productor, director y escritor británico….. Adquirió popularidad gracias a su personaje Charlot en múltiples películas del período mudo…. vino al mundo en el seno de una familia de artistas de variedades, por lo que desde niño actuó en musicales y pantomimas, sin imaginar que alcanzaría la fama con sus películas mudas y pasaría a formar parte de la historia del cine…. Las películas más destacadas de Chaplin fueron La quimera del oro (1925), Luces de la ciudad (1931), Tiempos modernos (1935) y El gran dictador (1940)….. Sus técnicas al momento de filmar incluían slapstick, mímica y demás rutinas de comedia visual…. Desde mediados de la década de 1910 dirigió la mayoría de sus películas, para 1916 también se encargó de la producción, y desde 1918 compuso la música para sus producciones…. En 1919, en colaboración con Douglas Fairbanks, David Wark Griffith y Mary Pickford, fundó la United Artists….. ¡¡¡ Hoy celebramos su cumpleaños !!!

William Wyler nació en Mulhouse hoy Francia, entonces Alemania..un 1 de julio de 1902 nos dejo un día como hoy hace 32 años en Los Ángeles, 27 de julio de 1981… se trasladó a los Estados Unidos en 1921 y fue un prolífico y sobresaliente director de cine, tres veces ganador del Premio de la Academia…A principios de los años treinta se convirtió en uno de los mejores directores de la Universal, dirigiendo películas tan sólidas como The Love Trap (1929), Hell’s Heroes (1930), ¿Héroe o cobarde? (1932) y Una chica angelical (1935).
Más tarde fue contratado por Samuel Goldwyn y dirigió películas de gran calidad como Esos tres (1936), Rivales (1936), una obra maestra como Desengaño (1936), Dead End (Callejón/Calle sin salida) (1937), Jezabel (1938), Cumbres borrascosas (1939), La Carta (1940), The Westerner (1940) y La loba (1941). La mítica y legendaria actriz Bette Davis dijo en varias ocasiones que fue el único director que supo dirigirla correcta y completamente.
Durante los años cincuenta y sesenta, Wyler dirigió toda una serie de películas aclamadas por la crítica, entre las que cabe destacar Vacaciones en Roma (1953) que presentó a Audrey Hepburn al público estadounidense y le llevó a ganar su primer Óscar; La heredera, que hizo ganar a Olivia de Havilland su segundo Óscar y Ben-Hur, con la que consiguió todos los Óscar de la edición de 1959; los once premios que ganó sólo han sido igualados dos veces, por Titanic en 1997 y El Señor de los Anillos: el retorno del Rey en 2003..

Hace pocos días celebrámos el nacimiento de uno de los más grandes directores de todos los tiempos ¡¡ FRANK CAPRA !!….Frank Capra nació en Bisacquino, Sicilia , Italia, 18 de mayo de 1897 ….fue un director de cine estadounidense de origen italiano ganador de tres premios Óscar…. Es el autor de algunas de las películas más populares de la década de los 30 y 40….. como los clásicos ¡Qué bello es vivir! o Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, entre otras….Ganó los Premios de la Academia (Óscar) al mejor director y mejor película por It Happened One Night, en 1934, que también ganó los galardones para el mejor actor y actriz (Clark Gable y Claudette Colbert), Capra dirigió una serie de películas para Columbia de corte espiritual y humanitario…. La más conocida es Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, las originales Lost Horizon, You Can’t Take It with You y Mr. Smith Goes to Washington…. Estuvo durante diez años sin dirigir otras comedias hasta la clásica Arsenic and Old Lace. Entre los actores que obtuvieron su éxito gracias a Capra están Barbara Stanwyck, James Stewart, Gary Cooper y Jean Arthur.
Las películas de Capra disfrutaron de un importante éxito en los premios de la academia…. It Happened One Night fue la primera película que ganó los cinco Óscar más importantes (a la mejor película, al mejor director, al mejor actor, a la mejor actriz y al mejor guion adaptado). En 1936, Capra gana su segundo Óscar a la mejor dirección por Mr. Deeds Goes to Town y en 1938 gana el tercero por You Can’t Take It with You con el que ganó también el Óscar a la mejor película.

BUSTER KEATON

Joseph Francis «Buster» Keaton (Piqua, Kansas, 4 de octubre de 1895 – Woodland Hills, California, 1 de febrero de 1966)….Era uno de los más grandes actores , guionista y director de los Estados Unidos del cine mudo .

Se caracterizó principalmente por su humor físico mientras mantenía un rostro inexpresivo en todo momento, lo cual le ganó su apodo, «Cara de piedra». En España fue conocido artísticamente como Pamplinas. Al igual que sus contemporáneos, Keaton provino del vodevil. Su padrino fue Harry Houdini, quien lo bautizó «Buster» (el destructor) tras verlo caer de una escalera sin una sola herida a la edad de tres años.

La historia del cine no se puede concebir sin Keaton… Su genialidad… su extraordinario talento.. hacen de El un genio de la creación y del ingenio… Hoy le deseaba rendir homenaje .. Coincidiendo con la fecha de su nacimiento….Un 4 de Octubre ….Donde quieras que estés mi admirado Buster Keaton… ¡¡¡¡Gracias por los momentos que he pasado viendo tus películas!!!

Was mainly characterized by its physical humor while keeping an expressionless face at all times, which earned him his nickname, «Stone Face». In Spain it was known artistically as Nonsense. Like his contemporaries, Keaton came from vaudeville. His godfather was Harry Houdini, who baptized him «Buster» (the destroyer) after seeing him fall off a ladder without a single wound at the age of three years.
Film history is inconceivable without Keaton … His genius … his extraordinary talent .. make him a genius of creation and ingenuity … Today I wanted to pay tribute ..
