Sir Malcolm Henry Arnold … nació en Northampton un 21 … de octubre de 1921 …nos dejó en Norwich, 23 de septiembre de 2006… fue uno de los compositores británicos más importantes de la segunda mitad del siglo XX… Comenzó su carrera como trompetista profesional, pero alrededor de los treinta años decidió dedicarse exclusivamente a la composición. Compuso más de quinientas obras, tanto música clásica como documental y cinematográfica (obteniendo, en 1957, un Óscar a la mejor banda sonora por El Puente sobre el Río Kwai). Fue uno de los más polémicos compositores ingleses del siglo XX, debido a un estilo neorromántico y neoclásico que ya había sido prácticamente relegado al pasado y sus consiguientes roces con la crítica especializada…
Una de las películas que más me han impactado cuando era muy pequeña … fue «Whistle down the wind» hoy tengo el placer de poder compartir esta extraordinaria Suite en honor a este gran compositor …

Su primer largometraje, Jour de fête (Día de fiesta), en el cual su mujer hace un papel, se rueda en 1947 y se termina en 1948, pero no se estrena en Francia hasta el 4 de julio de 1949, debido a la reticencia de los distribuidores franceses. La película, estrenada ya con éxito en Londres en marzo de 1949, obtiene finalmente un gran éxito de público en Francia, aunque los críticos se muestran, en general, poco entusiastas. No obstante, el film recibe el Grand Prix del cine francés en 1950. Iba a ser una de las primeras películas francesas en color, pero el carácter experimental del nuevo sistema de color «Thomsoncolor» y el elevado coste del positivado en color hizo que tuviera que proyectarse en blanco y negro. No fue hasta 1995 cuando se pudo hacer una copia en color y presentarla al público…
