BERNARD HERRMANN

(Nueva York; 29 de junio de 1911 – Nueva York; 24 de diciembre de 1975); fue un compositor estadounidense especializado en el género cinematográfico. Galardonado con un premio de la Academia a la mejor música de película dramática por su trabajo, El hombre que vendió su alma (1941), es principalmente conocido por sus colaboraciones con Orson Welles (Ciudadano Kane, La guerra de los mundos) y con Alfred Hitchcock, director con el que Herrmann cosechará la mayoría de sus grandes éxitos (Vértigo, El hombre que sabía demasiado, Psicosis). Quizás una de las anecdotas más divertidas fué la siguiente … a los ocho años dejaba patente su mal genio y cuando el profesor de música le regañaba Benny sin pensarlo le rompe el violín en la cabeza….Durante los cincuenta su carácter va transformándole en un individuo antisocial, agresivo y solitario, descontento con su profesión y convencido de que todo a su alrededor era negativo. Su prepotencia musical la consolida con un estilo personal, acorde con su melancólico estado de ánimo, en las cuerdas obsesivamente románticas de Jane Eyre, El fantasma y la señora Muir, y Las nieves del Kilimanjaro….. He deseado añadir estas facetas tan importantes de su personalidad…ya que se ven reflejadas en todas sus obras…¡¡¡ Pero….. hay sorpresa… !!! … Y precisamente he añadido al video dos fragmentos de sus obras… más amables y divertidas… y menos conocidas…Williamsburg Overture – Worlds of Gulliver…..Con estos dos temas cierro este video dedicado a este Gran Genio de la Composición….. Bernard Herrmann (New York, June 29, 1911 – New York, December 24, 1975) was an American composer specializing in film genre. Awarded an Academy Award for best dramatic film music for his work, The man who sold his soul (1941), is best known for his collaborations with Orson Welles (Citizen Kane, War of the Worlds) and Alfred Hitchcock, Herrmann director I reap most of their hits (Vertigo, The Man Who knew Too Much, Psycho). Perhaps one of the funniest anecdotes were as follows … at eight years showed clear his temper and when the music teacher scolded him without thinking Benny breaks his violin on the head …. During the fifty character transforming him into an individual is antisocial, aggressive, lonely, unhappy with their profession and convinced that everything around them was negative. His musical arrogance consolidates with a personal style befitting his melancholy mood, obsessively romantic ropes in Jane Eyre, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, and The Snows of Kilimanjaro ….. HUGO FRIEDHOFER

Hugo Wilhelm Friedhofer nació un 3 mayo 1901 y falleció un  17 mayo 1981… fué uno de los grandes compositores de Bandas Sonoras ….Nació en San Francisco… Su padre era un violonchelista  en Dresden, Alemania.
Friedhofer comenzó a tocar violonchelo a la edad de 13 años. Después de tomar lecciones de armonía y contrapunto en la Universidad de California, Berkeley , trabajó como violonchelista de la Orquesta Sinfónica del Pueblo.
En 1929, se trasladó a Hollywood, donde actuó como músico de Fox Studios producciones como Sunny Side Up (1920) y Gran Canaria (1934). Más tarde, fue contratado como orquestador para Warner Bros…. trabajó en más de 50 películas…Durante algún tiempo trabajo en  La Warner  con Max Steiner y, porque podía hablar alemán….  Erich Wolfgang Korngold  y Steiner, en particular, se basaron  en la habilidad de Friedhofer en convertir sus obras en una partitura para orquesta completa…. A pesar de sus propias habilidades, permaneció a su sombra durante muchos años.
En 1937, Friedhofer compuso su primera banda sonora de larga duración, Las aventuras de Marco Polo . A pesar de que todavía se emplea como un orquestador a través de los años 30 y en los años 40, recibió más asignaciones como compositor. En 1942, compuso la banda sonora de la película chetniks! Los guerrilleros que luchan.. .
En 1946, a instancias de Alfred Newman , Friedhofer fue contratado para componer la banda sonora para el 1946 William Wyler película dirigida, Los mejores años de nuestra vida , lo que le valió un Oscar a la mejor banda sonora en 1947 los Premios de la Academia , superando a Bernard Herrmann , Miklós Rózsa , William Walton y Franz Waxman .
Friedhofer también fue nominado para otras películas, incluyendo La mujer del obispo , Juana de Arco , Above and Beyond , Entre el cielo y el infierno , Sirena y el delfín , An Affair to Remember , y los Young Lions …

Hugo Wilhelm Friedhofer (3 May 1901-17 mayo 1981) was an American composer best known for his film scores image . Born in San Francisco . His father was a cellist trained in Dresden , Germany , and his mother , Eva König , was born in Germany .

Friedhofer began playing cello at the age of 13. After taking lessons in harmony and counterpoint at University of California, Berkeley , worked as a cellist for the People’s Symphony Orchestra .

In 1929 , he moved to Hollywood , where he worked as a musician for Fox Studios productions such as Sunny Side Up ( 1920) and Gran Canaria ( 1934 ) . Later, he was hired as orchestrator for Warner Bros. and worked in over 50 films for the studio . While Warner was largely designed to work with Max Steiner and , because he could speak German , Erich Wolfgang Korngold . Steiner , in particular , was based on the ability to convert your drawings Friedhofer a full orchestral score . Despite his own strong skills , he remained in his shadow for many years.

In 1937 , Friedhofer composed his first full-length soundtrack , The Adventures of Marco Polo. Although still used as an orchestrator through the 30s and into the 40s , was little more assignments as a composer. In 1942 , he composed the soundtrack to the film Chetniks ! Guerrillas fighting .

In 1946 , at the request of Alfred Newman , Friedhofer was hired to compose the soundtrack for the 1946 William Wyler directed film , The Best Years of Our Lives , which earned him an Oscar for best soundtrack in 1947 Academy Awards , beating Bernard Herrmann, Miklós Rózsa, Franz Waxman and William Walton . A new recording of the score, released in 1979 by Entr’acte Recording Society , was welcomed at the time ..

Friedhofer was also nominated for other movies , including The Bishop’s Wife , Joan of Arc , Above and Beyond , Between Heaven and Hell , Boy on a Dolphin , An Affair to Remember, and the Young Lions.
